EXPERIENCE

The justice system demands meaningful, positive, life-changing impact in the lives of those it serves, just as my law practice does today.

I began private practice in 2008 and explored many areas of the law including personal injury, family law, criminal defense, probate, estates and trusts, landlord-tenant law, and bankruptcy. I chose these areas for a related reason: to serve and support the people with whom I share my community.

For the past 14 years I have practiced law in Franklin County, helping my clients through difficult times by defending collection complaints, foreclosure actions, assisting in student loan relief options, and counseling debtors through bankruptcy relief.

My holistic approach to client representation has allowed my clients to identify and resolve multiple legal concerns, putting them in the best position for future success.

In my intended role as a Judge, I will apply that same level of understanding and care for the people and the issues brought before our court.

I have presented numerous cases before the Franklin County Municipal Court and the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas as well as the Federal District court for the Southern District of Ohio. It is my firm belief that fair and impartial administration of justice is essential to the health of our legal system and our community.

As a judge, I will apply my diverse experience with both civil and criminal law to create and maintain a system of fairness and justice.

It is an awesome responsibility to serve on the bench in this community, and I am honored to have the opportunity to seek your vote.

BACKGROUND

Laura Nesbitt’s family is from the Cleveland area and its suburbs—spanning from Bay Village in the west to Ashtabula in the east—all along Lake Erie. When Laura was very young, her dad was asked to transfer to a manufacturing plant in West Virginia. Washington, West Virginia is where Laura grew up. She eventually graduated from Parkersburg Catholic High School and was accepted to college at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her brother had begun his studies at West Virginia Wesleyan the year before. He went on to serve 4 years in the United States Marine Corp as a Sergeant completing two tours of duty in Iraq in the War On Terror.

Prior to Laura and her brother, no one in their family had ever attended college—and the expense was a sacrifice for them all. Still, their parents knew the important opportunities a college education could provide. Upon successful graduation from Xavier University, Laura was accepted into law school at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

Franklin County has been Laura’s home now for almost 20 years. She married and started a family here, established her law practice here, and could not imagine a better place to work and raise her family.

Laura has always had a passion to serve her community and has done so by volunteering throughout Central Ohio for various non-profits, working on pro bono cases and for clients in her practice at The Nesbitt Law Firm, a debtor’s rights practice, volunteering at local high schools across Central Ohio to teach financial literacy to students, and serving as an active parishioner at St. Brendan the Navigator in Hilliard.

Debt relief and financial success for clients has been Laura Nesbitt’s passion for the past twelve years. She enjoys what she does because she gets to help others in her community succeed in resolving real life issues including wage garnishment, eviction, vehicle repossession, utility shut off, and foreclosure, among other challenges.

Laura believes that creating and maintaining a system of fairness and justice allows the members of her community to grow and thrive, and she’s proud of the positive difference she has made in the lives of those she serves.

It is Laura Nesbitt’s passion for justice and success for those in her community that has led her to seek a position on the bench in Ohio’s 10th District Court of Appeals, and ask for your support in her judicial campaign.
